4 out of 5 stars!
I absolutely adored this stunning book by C. L. Wilson. I had the pleasure and privilege of reading this book thanks to HarperCollins and Avon. I received a digital ARC, which I read on my kindle. After having read the first in this series last year, The Winter King, I knew I had to read this as soon as possible. This book is the second in the Weathermages of Mystral series, and was just as good, if not better than the first! The cover art is wondrous!! I love the delicious sea warrior and his beautiful lady all wrapped up together. The colours of the cover blend so well (my eyes are very pleased) and after reading the book these cover models perfectly represent the couple.
The story follows to main characters, Dilys and Gabriella. One is a prince of a nation of the sea, the other is one of four daughters who represent the seasons. The story was fast paced and on more than a few occasions had me laughing out loud! Cackling actually. I really loved the moments between Gabriella (Summer) and her sisters. The breakfast scene was one of my favourites! C. L. Wilson made me laugh, she made me gasp and I could not put this book down. I read it in a six-hour sitting because I just could not stop! I told myself, only until the next chapter, I have to know what happens. The next thing I knew (sadly) it was over. Gabriella can control certain magical elements, like her sisters, and this makes them coveted by more than one male. Dilys finds himself attracted to Gabriella even though everyone believes he should pick another of the Seasons for his future wife. Summer and her sisters are kidnapped by pirates (noooooo) and of course, our daring Dilys dashes off to follow them. This book had all the elements of a romance that I love! Strong delicious males, funny and independent women, magical powers and worlds, a hint of drama and angst all wrapped up in another great package. I would have to make a small note: I did enjoy the first half of the book slightly more than the second half. During the first half, the book was a 4.5 out of 5 rating, then it dropped to 4 out of 5. At times I was frustrated by Gabriella and her rejection of Dilys, and felt that at certain points the book was a bit confusing, but I enjoyed how the story progressed overall.
There were more than a few twists that I did not expect, and the epilogue was exactly what I needed. I would certainly recommend this book if you love a good romance, magical worlds and a few twists and turns. I look forward to more of C. L. Wilsons work! And thank you HarperCollins and Avon for sending me an advanced copy. I can’t wait to get my hands on a print copy!
