5 out of 5 stars!
I am so glad I finally bought this book! It was such a nice surprise to read a fresh and new take on the young adult and fantasy genres. The heroine of the story, Alosa, is a bad ass, tough as nails pirate on a mission to steal a special map piece from a ruthless enemy ship full of pirates. She is ‘kidnapped’ by these pirates and sets about her mission to find the map piece. Combining the 3 pieces of the scattered map leads to the largest treasure trove known to man, which Alosa and her father (along with every other pirate on the seas) covert very highly. Her father is…. surprise surprise, the Pirate King, and he trained her from a very young age to be one of the best pirates on the seas. The first mate (or second in command after the captain) on her captive ship is the delicious Riden. He is in charge of her captivity and he questions her about her father, hoping to reveal the Pirate King’s location and where he keeps his court. Both Alosa and Riden don’t realise the other is trying to play them, and its a very intriguing development of their relationship. I LOVED the banter between Alosa and Riden and it was just so nice to read. I finished it very quickly, it was one of those books you just can’t put down. It had hints of magic and myth in it, which combined with the strong and stubborn herioine and delicious love interest, this was a perfect read. I cannot wait to read the next in the series, which comes out very shortly in early 2018.
